Worthy 5th place winner but . . . shouldn't this be in the regular monthly comp, no mention of Christmas in the story and we were told Christmas should be the central theme Shocked Did I miss something.

I agree yes. I loved the story. It really drew me in and its very atmospheric so this is no reflection on the story at all.

Thanks for reading my story and your kind feedback. I initially saw the email saying the competition was open, which made no reference to the story having to have a Christmas theme. It was only after I'd entered that I read the full set of rules on the site. I can only assume that they took pity on me - well, it is Christmas! Thanks again for reading and Merry Christmas. Cheers, Phil.

Hey Phil- cool story man. I left a review and mentioned my doubts around the christmas theme, but your reply here has clarified everything. It was a christmas ghost story in all aspects except actually saying it so please excuse my reservations. I agree with the comments about how atmospheric the tale was- I was very impressed by your vocabulary and storytelling skills and could envisage being captivated by novella/novel length writings in this style.

Hi Phil, I read the email again that we had from Spiney and you are right, there is no mention at all about it having to be a Christmas themed story. Have read your story a couple of times more and like it more each time. And yes, it does have a very Christmas atmosphere about it, without Christmas being mentioned. Well done you!

Seems we are missing a fourth place winner, everything seems to have frozen, literally.

Things could be worse: your boiler could have gone 2 days before xmas. Wouldn't be so bad but we have a little baby. Depressing!  Cry
