I only branch out to this topic because I once ran across Richard Mathson reading a SS collection where they got a whole bunch of writers to pick the horror story that they really enjoy growing up.  That was the one that me to first read Dick (even though I haven't read him in forever due to the lack of find writings by him).  The only other good stories I read in SS collection was road test by Ray Bradberry and The Chair by some japanese guy (I think it was Edoga or something like that).

I can recommend a couple good short story collections: Since this is a "Dark Fiction" site, Stephen King's Night Shift is filled with great Short stories. Another of his, Skeleton Crew, is also great. Stories such as "Survivor Type" and "The Jaunt" are good examples for Skeleton Crew, though there are many great stories in that collection. Night Shift is the creepier of the two, with stories like "The Boogeyman" and "Battleground" "Jerusalem's Lot" "The Lawnmower Man" "The Mangler" and many others.

I actually have a collection being considered by CMP Publishing Group LLC at the moment. It would be 13 tales in all, and is a mix of horror, sci-fi, and fantasy stories. It's looking pretty promising!

Hope you check out the collections I listed. They are VERY good!

That's cool you're reading Skeleton Crew. "The Jaunt" is my favorite in that collection. Ever read Night Shift? Excellently creepy stories, plus a few that are closer to sci-fi or fantasy. If you do read Night Shift, I think you'll like "Battleground." Many of the stories in that book have been made into movies: "Graveyard Shift" "Lawnmower Man" (which was absolutely nothing like the story) "The Mangler" "Sometimes They Come Back" "Battleground" (made for TV but still good.) And a few others. All good stories.

Yeah read night shift as well, loved the battleground tv show. Waiting with baited breath for UNDER THE DOME tv series, and Frank Darabonts version of The Long Walk. It's a good time to a King fan.

Right on! The first time I read Battleground it blew me away. The TV movie was good, too. William Hurt did a great Renshaw. And I didn't know they were doing Under The Dome as a TV mini-series. Do you know when this is going to happen?

The Langoliers is one of my favourite king adaptations, don't know why, I just love it. Seen it about ten times!

Yeah, Langoliers is awesome! I have the audio book. It's narrated by Willem Defoe. As for roles in Under the Dome, I haven't actually read it as yet. But I will soon!!

What did you think of King's remaking of The Shining? I liked it so much better than Kubrick's 1970's version, which was a far cry from the original story. The book scared the shite out of me, but I couldn't stop reading!

Also, have you read The Dark Tower series? If so, I can't believe they haven't made that into a movie yet! They're doing Dark Tower comics, but a movie has yet to be made. Stephen King optioned the series to JJ Abrams (Star Trek, Lost, Cloverfield) for a whopping $19. No kidding! The whole series for $19! Of course the number 19 has great significance to the Dark Tower story.

Never seen the remake, loved kubricks version but I've never read the book. Think I was about 13 or so when I started to read but got a abit freaked out by it, it unsettled me a little bit. I understand why Joey put his in the fridge in friends!

Heard about dark tower, but i have that many books on my shelves that I haven't read yet I daren't get into anything else. Never read a harry potter, never watched dr who, if I did, I know that'll become sucked in!

Kubrick's The Shining was freaky--unsettling, but after I read the book, I saw just how far Kubrick departed from the original story. The new version is really good.

Sounds intriguing! Ive entered the last few comps but no luck. I do sometimes wonder though whether Jodi actually even recieves my stories considering the tech trouble they've been having. Or it could be that they are all rubbish, lol. Do you submit by email or on the site?

Sorry to butt in, but I always submit my stories by e mail and ask for an e mail confirming safe receipt.  Better that than worry that your story never even got looked at.  It's not that I'm paranoid it's just that everyone's out to get me!  Happy belated birthday by the way!
