I would be Carrie in Stephen King's Carrie.
lol, imagine having all that power.
Feeling in particularly evil mood as the neighbour's dog has been barking non-stop all day. Now imagine what Carrie could do about that!
I agree that King is No.1, Herbert No.2 and Koontz No.3. Remember reading 'The Rats' by Herbert and I couldn't believe that a story could be that scary!
Didn't James Herbert write 'Fluke', that was made into a movie, a little bit schmalzy as a film but the book was a lot better. As usual.
Richard Matheson is another favourite, 'What Dreams May Come' is a wonderful book, again far better than the film.

Wouldn't be a King Charles Spaniel by any chance would it?  My next door neighbours got one and it barks all the time and I do mean all the time.  Pampered little highly strung mutt!

Perhaps you should get someone to do what my favourite character in Needful things did - skin their neighbours dog!

Not a King Charles, but it is a spaniel. It is driving me insane! I am a dog owner but I don't let mine bark incessantly so it disturbs the neighbours. Not the dog's fault, it's the owners, don't know why they bother having a dog if all they do is shut it out in the garden. Spent a lot of time this year getting my garden sorted out and now I cant even sit out due to the endless barking. Seriously, what can you do, police are hopeless, dog wardens don't want to know, where do you go from here. Maybe skinning is the answer, I remember that character.Good book.

You have my total sympathy - as I say, my neighbours dog starts yapping every time it steps into the back garden and it just goes on and on and they never make any effort to stop it.  I love dogs and have just taken on another rescue dog, but the moment he starts to bark, I quieten him down.  Really hard to concentrate on the old writing with a constant yapping outside.  Sitting in the garden isn't an option at the moment - I don't know where you are (Cornwall?) but it is monsooning here.

Yes, Cornwall is dull and drizzly and has been most of August. Hopefully we will get a good September / October as we have the last few years. Feel so sorry for all the people here on holiday at the moment. Saving up all year for one week of THIS!

Just come back from the west country from a week's holiday - virtually a total washout - just like 2 years ago when it was so wet we started building an ark.

I feel for you. Its a lovely area down here but for the past few years the summer has been pretty dreary. I swear that it never used to be like this. I remember I used to go to the beach all the time in summers past. Cant do that now.

Ah, the beach, yes I remember them.  Saw several of them all from the comfort and warmth of the car as it hammered down outside - very annoying.  After holidaying down in west every year for as long as I can remember I'm used to dreary weather especially on the moors, but the odd appearance by Mr Sun would have been nice if only to keep the restless natives quiet.

East Anglia, so it's about 250 miles each way and as I can't sit in a car for more than an hour at a time because of the old back, it takes forever to get there.

All that way and you get rain! Today has been quite nice though and Im hoping to go out to Godrevy tonight to watch the sun set, if the clouds stay away.

Is there any chance that your back will improve?

Jeff, you mentioned that you lived in East Anglia, this is a beautiful place. When I worked in Vauxhall Motors in Luton Bedfordshire as a spot welder some years ago my friends and me working there used to, during our times off, used to get a boat out on hire for pike fishing and tour around the Broads. We would finish that off at the end of the day by calling into the riverside pubs for a drink or two. what great memories, and as i said, what a beautiful place to watch the sun going down. Ah, Happy days!

None whatsoever at the moment unfortunately, as they've tried everything that currently exists in the known medical world eg physio, osteo, pain killers, major operation, dozens of huge injections, the rack etc, so I've just got to shut up and put up with it.  New procedures are always being developed though, so I live in hope.

Patrick - yes, East Anglia is for the most part lovely, when we get the weather and I should imagine it's great for fishing, but confess I've never done any.

Ive never been to East anglia but Ive heard its a lovely area.  Grin

Sorry about your back Jeff. I can symphasise with you to a certain degree. I have sciatica and have just recovered from a frozen shoulder and now I have neck problems. Nothing really too serious but enough to give me constant pain. Ive had injections and painkillers and acupuncture and am now waiting for yet another pysio app. Think they're fed up with me! Its no joke I know and I hope that something can be done for you eventually. Have you tried a tens machine? Stupid question probably as I imagine you've tried everything.Ive heard its quite good and am looking to invest in one myself.

I think Dracula would be a pretty good character to be, except for the ending.

Don't think I'd want to be anyone in the Ring. Even Sadako, as she is so creepy and cursed, as she curses everyone else.
