I been getting into the Higurashi and Umineko series (in english 'When they Cry').  I find the glimse into the end of the first season of Higurashi (nothing can get you into something like a boy beat two girls down then after the credits see a bunch of kids goofying off together), you find out how it gets to that point then when you get the end of the arc they start it all over.  It truly chilling, but themes like being stuck in a loop where the same people die in different ways and from different POV (point of view) especially under seventeen year old is... I want to say intrigueing but that not quite the word (beside the fact I think I misspell it) I'm looking for.
You might think that getting the chance to do things over again might be a good one, but they truly turn it into a horrifying experience.  There seem to be a point to it all, in Higurashi finding the source of the deaths and in Umineko a very magical resistance young trying to convince a witch that she doesn't exist by using logical to explain the Endlessly repeating deaths is the work of person on private (cut off from the world) island (yeah it's a bit of a mind f#*k but it make sense if you understand they way they set up magic in this fictional world).
It's hard to say what you make of these series, but if you have the time, money, and want to experience something a lot more different then you're use to I highly recomment either of these series.
So far their is there is three season of Higurashi (one mainly to mess with your mind if the first two didn't trip you out enough) and one of Umineko.
