By Land, By Sea
By
Patrick Feenan
Our first Spinetinglers Elite Winner

I am told that the first thing which struck everyone who read Patrick's work was that this was a story which needed to be told.  By Land, By Sea is a worthy winner if slightly unexpected.  When we started this competition if you had of asked me to tell you something about our first winner I would have said that it would probably be dark fiction.  Yet that is not the case with By Land, By Sea.

By Land, By Sea is a story based on Patrick's life - it is not a biography - it is rather a story about a period in Patrick's life, a "faction".

Patrick Feenan was born and raised in Belfast a number of decades ago and as a young man he lived through one of perhaps the darkest periods in Northern Ireland's history.  It is a difficult tale and one filled with dark humour and self-depreciation, however it also asks questions of those who were in control at the time.  It is a cautionary tale which should be heard and remembered - as if we forget our past we are likely to be forced to repeat it.

It goes without saying that Patrick is delighted that his book is being published by Spinetinglers Elite and I will update you regularly regarding By Land, By Sea.

As the next winner of the Spinetinglers Elite Competition will realise, I am allowed to unleash my normal "inquisitiveness" even more than normal, obviously I started off with a few gentle questions, yes only a few because I'm not allowed to scare the man to death - don't worry you'll learn more as time goes on.

Q - What is the day and month of your birthday?
A - April 27th.
My natural nosiness refuses to ask anyone what year they were born!

Q - What inspires you to write - generally?
A - When I was in school I came top of the class in english comprehension and was moved up two classes - I've written ever since.

Q - How many projects do you work on at any one time?
A - I do one project at a time but carry a writing pad and pen to write down ideas at the time in case I forget them. If information is useful I write it down and file it for possible future writing projects.

Q - Was there a reason you chose Spinetinglers?
A - I thought that Spinetinglers would comprehend my projects more as our culture is the same, rather than a foreign publisher.

I asked Patrick if there was anything else that he would like to say and as no work is ever created by an author without help from others he asked me to include the following;

"My thanks to the Mooney family for their time and cooperation, and also my nephew Michael for picking me up material from bookshops and libraries while I was otherwise engaged. I would like to thank the staff of spinetinglers for their dedication to my project, and also their professionalism and great help."
Patrick Feenan.

By Land, By Sea, By Patrick Feenan will be published by Spinetinglers Elite Publishing.
ISBN:  978-1-906657-02-4

By Land, By Sea will be released in Hardback 2010 and six months after it's initial publication will be released in Paperback, this will be followed by release on Kindle and ebook.

If you would like to be considered for a pre-release review copy please contact me (Jodi) at jodi@spinetinglerspublishing.com for further details.

If you're reading this, Patrick, many congratulations on being what sounds like a worthy winner.

Patrick has asked me to pass on his thanks for your message of congratulations.  Unfortunately he isn't able to login to the forum (which the IT guys are currently working on now) and so he has asked me to post his email - patrickfeenan@msn.com

Patrick would be delighted to hear from you so don't hesitate to get in touch with him.
